Tools of the Trade

You are looking at our nifty paper pot planting system. This system originated in Japan. Cut lettuce varieties are seeded by hand into those honeycomb shaped paper pot cell trays in the green house about three weeks prior to transplanting outside. The transplanter is pulled along the soil surface and the paper pot trays unfurl into a single fully planted chain of plants. It takes about one hour to transplant five lines of cut lettuce mix under ideal conditions. This method allows us to gain a head start and assures that our earliest spring salad mix will contain beautiful lettuce leaves along with the much easier to grow brassica family leaves, like mizuna, arugula, mustard, choi, and baby kale.
